Fusion Books, with Indepth Creative technology, runner up in WA Inventor of the Year
Earlier this year Indepth Creative designed the technology to allow Fusion Books to offer a simplified process of online yearbook creation. The concept of users uploading, editing and rearranging images and texts online at their convenience was a challenge which other companies were hesitant to take on. However Indepth Creative employed flexibility to accommodate the needs of Fusion Books, overcoming technical difficulties to develop the technology to do all of this.
On Friday 17th October, at the Grand Ballroom of the Burswood Entertainment Complex, this hard work was recognised as Fusion Book were awarded as runner up in the ‘Ready for Market’ category in the Western Australia Inventor of the Year 2008.
“The incredible success Fusion Books is experiencing through Australia and internationally is a fantastic tribute to the hard work of [the Indepth] team,” says Melanie Perkins, Director of Fusion Books.
The WA Inventor of the Year Award is one of the State's most exciting and rewarding program for products and services at pre‐commercialisation stages of development. The awards are administered by the WA Innovation Centre under the Department of Industry and Resources, and aim to help industry, government, academia and schools work collaboratively to foster an environment of innovation, as well as assist the promotion of innovation.
Indepth Creative produced a technically sound and innovative system for Fusion Books, which is user-friendly and visually appealing. Now both students and teachers can securely login to the Fusion website, customise all aspects of the yearbook, and have them printed and delivered. With multiple logins the huge task no longer falls to just one person, making the whole operation fast, more efficient and most importantly a collaborative effort.
The awards Minister for Science and Innovation Troy Buswell said the finalists represented the State’s emerging talent from the science and innovation sector.
"These inventions help to contribute to establishing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in WA," he said.
"Award winners will receive significant financial assistance and in-kind support, including access to professional services and resources, which are appropriate to their stage of development and commercialisation, to ensure this talent is grown where it started."
"It is great to see Western Australia’s creative thinkers and innovators moving forward and trying to get their ideas into the commercial market."
Says Melanie Perkins, “while the complexity of our project stumbled many companies along the way, some even suggesting we needed to explore software companies in California, [Indepth Creative] systematically pulled our project apart and put it together using nothing but the very latest technology with very impressive results. Our website and web application are visually appealing, user-friendly and functional. We could not have hoped for a better result.”
